THE PILOT SCRIPT

"The character work here is terrific and a really strong example of how to craft characters with storytelling economy, and it is a canny move to use Juan as our eyes and ears to the world of the story, not only because he is the perfect foil for the plot itself, but also because he represents the audience as an outsider being brought in. Dialogue is very strong throughout this script, and you have a clear understanding of how to lace exposition through scenes that are also involved in character drama, without it ever feeling forced. "There is a lane here: prestige streamers and cable nets that program period crime with sociopolitical texture, especially with underrepresented communities. FX, MGM+, Prime, Netflix, Apple, and Max are plausible targets. The show offers castable roles for two powerhouse Latinas (Julia, Diana), a promising young lead (Juan), and a few meaty antagonists, which helps packaging. 'Inspired by true events' is a plus in the current environment. You’ve stacked personal, communal, and institutional conflict effectively."
